This ropeway was commenced in 2000, and completed in September 2001. Located in the Hailuogou Valley Scenic Area of Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, it is of the monocable circulating cabinlift type (with detachable grips), with the horizontal distance of 3,263.2 m, elevation difference of 518 m and one-way transport capacity of 600 people / hour.

The ropeway lower station is at an altitude of 3,000 m and upper station of 3,500 m; the all-steel structure station is adopted in the design to facilitate the construction and installation in high attitude areas and reduce the construction quantities on site.

The ropeway facilitates tourists to enjoy the magnificent glacier and the main peak of Mount Gongga - the world's eleventh highest peak (at an altitude of about 7,555 m).
